Areas of expertise
City Wide Inclusive Sanitation
WSUP Advisory has mentored and trained sanitation actors in Africa and Asia in the adoption of City Wide Inclusive Sanitation (CWIS). We have worked extensively with regional, national and city-level mandate holders in the application of the CWIS approach to sanitation planning and in the development of sanitation business plans.
WSUP Advisory supports the professionalisation and strengthening of water and sanitation utilities in cities, small towns, and rural growth centres. We apply the WSUP Utility Strengthening Framework tool to identify and prioritise issues and provide technical assistance and mentoring to improve governance, operations, and finances.
Inclusive water & sanitation service models
WSUP Advisory supports utilities and municipal governments in the development and implementation of pro-poor water and sanitation service models. These models are often based on innovative financing mechanisms developed by WSUP Advisory with the aim of making services accessible to all potential service users in the city.
WSUP Advisory works with utilities and municipal governments to address the impacts of climate change including the design and implementation of measures to increase water security, promote energy efficiency and reduce the vulnerability of water and sanitation infrastructure. We also contribute to the development and dissemination of knowledge on climate resilience as it relates to urban water and sanitation
Policy, institutions & regulation
WSUP Advisory works with regional and national governments in the development of the enabling environment for water and sanitation. We also work at city level to develop the regulatory instruments and guidance required to support the implementation of national policy and legislation at local level.
