WSUP Advisory provided support to the Mid-Western Umbrella (MWU) on its journey to becoming a high-performing water and sanitation utility delivering safe and sustainable services to customers. Technical assistance was provided to help MWU strengthen its financial position, cover operational costs, expand services to more customers — including unserved and underserved communities — and improve the efficient use of available water resources.
WSUP Advisory also supported leadership and governance development through senior management mentoring, learning exchanges with peer utilities, and training for Board members. Many of the activities piloted under this grant were approved at Ministry level and rolled out nationally across other Umbrella Authorities, including an ‘area-level’ organisational management framework and accounting system.
For the Mid-Western Umbrella, the programme resulted in a reduction in non-revenue water (NRW) from 47% to 40%, an improvement in cash operating margin from 70% to 90%, and an increase in water quality compliance from 70% to 95%.
