Project Duration June 2022-June 2023 Country Lake Victoria Basin (Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda) Funder World Bank

The Lakewide Inclusive Sanitation (LWIS) initiative aimed to facilitate dialogue among stakeholders from the five Partner States of the Lake Victoria Basin to develop a common vision and commitment to reducing lake pollution through the adoption of a LWIS approach to sanitation service planning and implementation. WSUP Advisory provided technical and advisory support to the Lake Victoria Basin Commission (LVBC) in the development of a Lakewide Inclusive Sanitation Strategy and Strategic Action Plans for three demonstrations areas representing different urban typologies in the Lake Victoria Basin (LVB). WSUP Advisory also analysed and identified opportunities for promoting private sector engagement and job creation in the sanitation sector and determined sanitation technologies appropriate to the LVB, that can increase the effectiveness and efficiency of sanitation service delivery, increase climate resilience and promote the reuse of solid and liquid waste.
