The Mid-Western Umbrella Priority Projects Programme supports the Mid-Western Umbrella of Water and Sanitation (MWU) to strengthen its ability to develop bankable infrastructure projects and access financing to expand reliable water services across small towns in western Uganda.

WSUP Advisory worked with MWU’s senior management and cluster teams to identify and prioritise high-impact investments through a structured process involving project generation, feasibility assessments, and technical review. This collaborative approach resulted in priority schemes including Bukuya, Buheesi, and Kayinja.

In Bukuya, the project components include connecting a solar-powered borehole to the national grid, rehabilitating and extending 8.5 km of pipeline, installing operational fittings and a chlorination system, and constructing a 150 m³ reservoir.

The improvements increased daily production from 240 m³ to 400 m³, strengthened water quality compliance, reduced supply interruptions, and increased monthly billing from UGX 15 million to UGX 22 million, demonstrating how targeted investments can improve both service delivery and utility performance.
