This initiative supported the Mid-Western Umbrella of Water and Sanitation (UWS-MW) in strengthening financial management systems as the utility expands water services across western Uganda. As operations grew, manual and Excel-based accounting systems became inefficient and limited the utility’s ability to manage increasing revenues and operational complexity.
With support from the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, WSUP Advisory worked with UWS-MW and the Ministry of Water and Environment to adopt the Sage 200 integrated financial management system, providing technical guidance, change management support, and staff capacity building throughout the transition.
The new system enables real-time management, financial reporting, improved budget and cost management, automated reconciliations, and stronger internal controls. As a result, UWS-MW has improved financial transparency and operational efficiency while supporting rapid growth, from UGX 155 million monthly billing in 2019 to UGX 450 million by June 2025, strengthening the utility’s ability to plan, manage resources, and deliver reliable water services.
